Questions bodega owners always ask
What happens when my internet goes down?
Brega keeps ringing up sales. Cash sales work fully offline — they're queued securely on your register and sync automatically the moment your connection comes back. You never lose a sale, and you never tell a customer "the system is down."
My internet went down and I still need to take cards — what do I do?
Turn on your phone's hotspot and connect the register to it (USB or Wi-Fi). Card payments resume immediately — all the register needs is any internet connection. It's a 30-second step, and your cash sales keep working the whole time regardless.
Is my customers' card data safe on my computer?
It's never on your computer to begin with. Card payments go straight to Stripe — Brega never stores card numbers on your register. So if a machine is ever stolen or the internet drops, there's no card data sitting on it to expose. Card details are encrypted in transit and handled entirely by Stripe, the same processor trusted by millions of businesses.
Can my cashier use it if she only speaks Spanish?
Yes — the register, kitchen display, and customer screen all switch to Spanish (plus 6 other languages besides English: Portuguese, French, Haitian Creole, Arabic, Chinese, Hindi). Your cashier doesn't need a single English word to ring up an order.
Do I need to buy new hardware?
Probably not. Brega works with almost any USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner, any ESC/POS thermal receipt printer (Star, Epson, and most generics), and any Windows or Linux mini-PC or tablet. We'll confirm your existing equipment is compatible for free before you commit.
I'm under a contract with my current POS. Can I still switch?
Many POS contracts are month-to-month or already expired — check yours. If you do have time left, many owners run both side-by-side for a few weeks until their current term ends. We'll help you read the contract for free; contact us and we'll take a look.
How do tobacco rebates actually work?
Each manufacturer (Altria, RJR, ITG, Liggett) runs a scan-data program that pays stores $0.08-$0.15 per carton sold of their brands. Brega generates the weekly reports each manufacturer requires, in their format, and we help you register with each one. Most stores see their first $30-50 rebate check within a month.
What does "no forced ads" actually mean?
Brega's customer display shows only what YOU put on it: your promos, your flyers, your message. We never sell ad inventory to anyone, so your customer-facing screen stays focused on your store and your offers.
How do I cancel if I don't like it?
Open Settings → Cancel. No phone tree, no retention specialist, no contract penalty. Your data is yours — export it to CSV anytime. We'd rather earn the next month than trap you into one.
What about EBT/SNAP?
Built in via our Forage integration. We help you get FNS-authorized (the federal certification, 3-6 months, free) and run your first EBT transaction. SNAP, EBT Cash, WIC, all handled — including split payments where part of the basket is EBT-eligible and the rest is card or cash.
